History

Many of the buildings found in Little Venice are Regency stucco terraced town houses, with taller blocks built in the same style at a later date. The name Little Venice itself is comparatively recent, coming into use by the latter half of the 20th century. Previously it was referred to as London’s Venice, in reference to certain parts of Paddington and Maida Vale. The whole area at one stage was owned by the Bishop of London, and then by the Church commissioners, who in the 1980s decided to sell the houses.
